This is a custom, handcrafted skyline diffuser ceiling that took 2 months to complete. It is made up of 8,943 individual blocks cut to 6 different sizes and organized in a very specific pattern such that no bordering blocks repeat the center. Each and every block was cut to size from 281 eight foot pine 4x4s, then sanded by hand, and coated with a blend of tung oil, polyurethane, and paint thinner. After the blocks dried, a single hole was drilled and filled with a finish screw. Caulk was also used as an adhesive in order to ensure the blocks hold onto the plywood above. A quarter inch space was made between each block before finally screwing each one into place.
