Your new home deserves to be perfect. It's generally a once in a lifetime opportunity for the majority of people, so I thought WKP could help. With the experience of building and remolding many buildings, we have collected a quick list of the most importnat things that should not be forgotten.
1. Natural Light
Every home needs to have plenty of natural light. With a multitude of large windows, a home is able to bathe itself in all that brilliant sunlight. This also allows for the space to expand outwards and bring its surroundings inside.
2. Outdoor Space
Any new home should include an outdoor space, no matter how small. With a expansive plot of land, it's easy to open a room to the great outdoors. It's understandably more difficult in an apartment in the middle of a city but with a little thought, anything is possible.
3. Labels
It's a small detail, but add the proper labeling to electric panels and water lines will be deeply appreciated by the future you. Knowing and understanding where things go can make all the difference in the world when something inevitably goes wrong. Without those labels, I can promise that it will take a lot longer to find and solve any issues.
4. Entry Organizer
With new construction, it's very common that the entry is a forgotten room of the home. This is a very important space because it allows for the ideal place to keep your most important possitions, the things in your pockets.
5. Ethernet Cables
This might sound like we're going back in time, but trust me here. If you are building a new home, add in the extra cabling to ensure a faster and more reliable internet connection. At WKP, we make sure to have ethernet cables behind every telivison so we can enjoy 4K streaming without issues.
6. LED Lighting
If your new home doesn't have LEDs, fix it. The benefits of using LED lights far outweigh conventional bulbs. Just use LEDs.
7. Insulation
The most straightforward method of helping to create an energy efficient home is to insulate. Insulating the walls, floors, and ceilings, will keep the interior temperature more consistent. With less temperature fluctuation, you are rewarded with a much lower heating and/or cooling bill. Additionally, insulation will act as a great sound barrier protecting you from unnessary noise.
8. USB Outlets
There is no getting away from the fact that we all own multiple electronic devices that require USB charging. We need the charge points, so just add them to the wall outlets. It just makes sense. And for those of us that need USB-C, there are outlets for that as well.
9. Storage and Storage
And more storage. There is never enough space a home can have to tuck away and store our things. The older we get, the more stuff we accrue and more storage we require. Additional storage space is invaluable in a home.
10. Personal Indulgence
The final new construction necessity is of your own choosing. Adding in something that makes you feel like you are at home is extremely important. It doesnt matter how big or small this is, just as long as it gives you that homey feeling. For me, it's a great coffe maker.
